PROJECT BRIEF

New Spec Interiors worked in close collaboration with the principal contractor, leveraging the expertise of J. Adams & Co.’s in-house design team to transform their conceptual vision into a fully realised physical space. This project focused on the creation of a high-end light showroom, where the integration of architectural features, functional design elements and aesthetic quality were paramount. The project was particularly challenging due to the unique specifications around the design and installation of partitions, as well as the emphasis on flawless surface finishes required for such a premium retail environment.

Design and Installation of Partitions

One of the central challenges of this fit-out was the specification of the partitions. Given the light showroom’s functional needs and aesthetic requirements, all new partitions were designed to support the installation of high-end brass pendant lighting, which was to be displayed throughout the space. The pendants, being a key feature of the showroom, required secure and precise fixing points that would ensure both safety and visual alignment.
In addition to accommodating the pendants, it was critical to preserve the integrity of the basement structure, which had been tanked for waterproofing. The tanking process involves the application of protective materials to prevent water ingress, and it was essential that any partition system did not disturb this layer. After careful consideration, it was decided that a perimeter track and stud plasterboard partition system would be the most effective solution.
This approach offered several advantages:
  • Non-invasive installation: By using a perimeter system, the tanked walls were left undisturbed, ensuring that the waterproofing remained intact and functional.
  • Strong and secure fixings for pendants: The perimeter track system provided stable and reliable anchoring points for the heavy brass pendants, ensuring they were safely suspended.
  • Efficient power routing: The partition system facilitated clear, unobstructed routing for electrical cabling and power sources, ensuring that wiring could be discreetly and efficiently routed to the appropriate locations without compromising the design or function of the space.
By opting for this innovative partition method, New Spec Interiors ensured that both the structural integrity of the building and the functional requirements of the light fittings were seamlessly integrated into the overall design.
